History of Beekeeping – Find Out Where it All Began
It is not certain as to when was the first time a person decided to collect honey from hives. But what we do know is that art of beekeeping has been around for quite a long time. Some cave drawings have been discovered by archaeologist depicting the collection of honey. It is believed that the cave drawings were created in 7000BC and were found in Africa and Spain's eastern regions. These drawings show pictures of people scooping honey out off trees and rocks. The cave dwellers then somehow learned the affect of smoke in the harvesting of honey.
It is believed that clay, pottery, bowls, and straw baskets were used as artificial beehives. The early age people mastered a way of how to capture swarms of bees into these containers than turn the containers into a beehive.
Many ancient civilizations raised bees for money, and an example are the Myans civilization. The Goddess Mellona was believed to be a protector of the bees by the Aficionados of the Roman history.
It is also believed that the Greeks had respect for honey bees, because at the home off Zeus there is a mountain called Mt. Olympus which was believed that the mountain produces honey provided by the Gods. It is also believed by the Greeks that the bees from this mountain were responsible in the building off Apollo's second temple.
The bee revolution began to increase between 1500's and 1851. 1500's being the year of critical change. A lot was learned about bees such as the cycle of bees, how they lived and produced honey.
Beekeepers began to learn more about the life cycle of bees then decided to design a see through hive that will allow them to see the bees and the honey they produce in the hives.
The first person to design a mobile beehive was Lorenzo Langstroth who is an American. California was the 1st Place in the United States to be introduced to beekeeping then Oregon and Canada followed.
It is estimated that they are over 210,000 beekeepers in the United States today. And it is believed that they are over 2 million active beehives. This goes to tell you that the beekeeping industry is growing at a very fast rate.

By the way, the beekeeping industry has come a long way from it being a simple hobby to where it's going on tables across the world. Many beekeepers that have not been brought up in a family that practiced this are going to have to really learn fast from an experienced beekeeper that has had years of experience from knowing the biology and study of bees and what to expect when they turn out a good product of honey.
Most people who are in this are actually doing this as a hobby. Having a hobby and a livelihood are two entirely different areas since one is something you invest time and in some cases money and one is when you're trying to make a living at.
